ARE YOU SWAMPED WITH FACEBOOK PAGE LIKE REQUESTS AT THE MOMENT?
I certainly am. I’m also seeing A LOT of posts like the ones below.
It might seem like you’re helping businesses right now by harmlessly liking their page. And as a business owner it might seem like a quick way to boost your follower numbers, especially when we find ourselves in really challenging times.
But this “shortcut” actually does waaaay more harm than good in the long run ๐ฒ here’s why:
๐Your Facebook Page will be flooded with ‘likes’ and follows from people who are not YOUR people.
๐Because they’re not your people they won’t engage or add any value to your page
๐This sends a signal to the algorithm your content is bad and people don’t want to see your stuff
๐The algorithm stops showing your content to your people, because it only wants to show the stuff it thinks people will like
๐The algorithm shows your content to more people who aren’t your people, because you’ve made it believe they are your people
๐Your engagement rates plummet and you think it’s Facebook’s fault, but it’s not.
Stop looking at bigger follower numbers and seeking quick wins. You don’t need MORE followers. You need BETTER connections with the ones you already have.
Here’s what to do instead:
๐Create VALUABLE content people want to engage with (like, comment and share)
๐ Reach out to your current followers
๐ Start conversations with people who are your people
๐ Show up in relevant Facebook groups and be HELPFUL (do not self promote)
๐ Forget follower numbers (quality trumps quantity every time)
๐ Decline all page invites (unless you genuinely want to support them, of course)
Please share this with any business owners you know so they’re not tempted to ruin their Facebook page.
